75 Years After Berlin Airlift, U.S. Air Drops to Gaza Are a Farce
So it’s come to this for the United States.
In 1948, the U.S. launched a massive airlift of supplies into Berlin to help prevent over two million people from starving in the face of a total blockade by our enemy, the Soviet Union.
In 2024, the U.S. will launch air drops into Gaza to help prevent over two million people from starving in the face of a total blockade by our ally, Israel.
By 1949, the Berlin airlift was a complete success. America proved it could supply and feed the city indefinitely. In response to the rapid consolidation of West Germany and the creation of NATO, Stalin abandoned his backfiring blockade. It was an awesome display of American power.
Now, the Gaza air drops by U.S. and its partners show only their growing failure to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe. America proved it could not budge what Benjamin Netanyahu boasts is its “greatest ally.” It is a pathetic display of American weakness.
